Sailboat under way at sunset, Pacific Ocean

Why our boat already in Polynesia is a great opportunity

6 min read

Pélican is already in French Polynesia, and she's staying put until summer 2027. That changes a lot compared to a boat you'd have to go and find in Europe and sail halfway round the world.

No delivery passage, no bad surprises

You skip the very long delivery passages, which often cost a lot and take a lot of time — sometimes several months between the purchase and the day you actually set foot on board. A delivery passage isn't just a logistical formality : you need to find a skipper, insure the boat, provision it, deal with the weather over thousands of miles, and fix whatever broke along the way. Pélican is already here. There's nothing to bring over from the other side of the world, and nothing to hand over to a crew you don't know.

A boat that has already proven herself

Today Pélican is fully proven. She has sailed in every kind of condition you can meet at sea, and we know exactly what she's capable of. And because she's still under warranty, every little warranty issue we've had along the way has been sorted, one by one, at no cost to the future owner. We've also documented everything very precisely — every intervention, every setting, every fix — it's a reflex for Nicolas, who's an airline pilot and kept that same rigor at sea. We keep all those details on hand, nothing hidden.

Sail Tahiti, the local partner you need

For after-sales support, Sail Tahiti takes care of it, based in Papeete. They know Pélican inside out, being the sole Excess distributor for all of French Polynesia — and the very people we bought her new from. That's a huge advantage so you're never stuck dealing with maintenance issues on your own, on the other side of the world. Sail Tahiti handles support, advice, ordering parts, and shipping them out to the islands if needed, even to the most remote anchorages. And trust us : a warranty issue with no trusted local contact, in a remote place like this, can turn into a real headache fast — weeks or even months waiting for a part or a technician.

A boat ready to live on, not just to sail

Pélican isn't a boat we prepped for sale. She's a boat we actually live on. We live aboard full time with our two sons, we homeschool, we cook, we do everyday life on her — not just weekend sails. As a result, she's equipped for exactly that : proper storage, real autonomy, everything you need for daily life on top of sailing. Moving aboard won't mean a huge move — just your personal belongings.

Every new boat has a break-in period

It's something we tend to forget : even boats worth several million euros go through a break-in period, with the usual share of teething issues, settings to fine-tune, parts to run in. That's normal, it happens to everyone. The advantage with Pélican is that this period is already behind her. She's been made reliable, tested in real long-distance sailing conditions, proven — and still under warranty, while a boat fresh out of the factory would just be starting to work through its own growing pains.

A boat that has already sailed has nothing left to prove.
